Deeper Center, Living Prayer

In 2009 David Frenette will be leading two unique and transformative ten-day retreats on deepening Centering Prayer, one on the beautiful Hudson River and the other in the majestic Rocky Mountains. These retreats provide guidance and encouragement for Centering Prayer practitioners, particularly those who sometimes feel stuck in their practice, discouraged by their thoughts or struggles to find God (all of us!), and for anyone who wants to take their practice to the next level.

Uniting Centering Prayer & Contemplation

David has developed a series of teachings that assist practitioners in overcoming common obstacles in their prayer life, so that it more easily deepens into contemplation -- a receiving of God’s transforming presence. He will also present methods for effectively integrating the gifts of Centering Prayer practice into everyday life. These teachings are specifically geared towards providing practical help for people at all levels of contemplative experience – beginning, intermediate and advanced.

The Retreat Process

The retreat will consist of morning and afternoon sessions featuring live teaching presentations, discussion and experiential exercises. There will also be intensive Centering Prayer practice, silence, and solitude.

Snowmass

St. Benedict’s Monastery in Snowmass Colorado is the Trappist monastery where Fr. Thomas Keating lives, and the spiritual home of Centering Prayer.  There is a retreat house a 20-minute walk from the monastery at which Centering Prayer retreats have been given for 25 years.  The monastery has 3,500 acres of pristine land in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  Retreat participants who are traveling via air can fly into Aspen and be picked up by the retreat staff at the airport.

The Garrison Institute

The Garrison Institute is an inter-religious retreat and conference center located on the estate of a former Capuchin monastery.   The beautifully renovated facility is surrounded by forests and fields, set directly above the Hudson River.  Retreat participants can drive, take the train from New York City or fly into one of the many nearby airports.
